Innovation

Learn about Banlaw’s Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities in this Brochure.
Following the success of the field trial, and subsequent multi-tank installations of FillSafe Zero, the solutions deployed for the Cowal Gold Mine have now been distilled into standardised and integrated Banlaw refuelling and overfill protection products.
A Fuel Management System is a combination of hardware and software products, that together enable security, access, and control of fuel stores, whilst monitoring delivery and consumption. Banlaw fuel management systems are for companies that need increased accuracy, accountability, security or productivity from their fluid assets. It is normal for our fuel management customers to achieve fluid reconciliation rates in excess of 99.5%.
More often than not; the creation of innovative technologies does not come from ‘flashes of insight’. Innovation is a process that occurs when talented people with the right blend of skills define challenges, generate solutions, and then plan and execute together to produce something new. New product development at Banlaw focuses around refuelling solutions, fluid transfer and fluid evacuation, pressureless refuelling, and fuel management. To keep moving forward, we commit to and invest in a roadmap for each of these product families. Perfect may not exist, but by working the plan, we keep punching away at technical barriers, delivering incremental improvements and brand-new capabilities.
Banlaw service teams have recently been recognised by a large global mining client for reducing the risk associated with the manual handling of fluid calibration equipment. Flow calibration is a critical activity for companies that need an accurate fuel management system to account for fuel usage in their operation. Calibration Meters are known to be bulky, awkward, and heavy. Moving Calibration Meters from job to job and correctly positioning them on site carries a significant risk of staff injury. As part of Banlaw’s continuous improvement approach to onsite Hydrocarbon processes; this situation was recognised as an opportunity to improve. Banlaw teams analysed the risk profile, then designed and fabricated a new Calibration Rig solution.
Pacific National – a large freight loco operator in Australia – had safety concerns regarding their fluid couplings used within In Line Refuelling systems, commonly used on longer haul journeys. Concerns included: spillage of fuel when connecting and disconnecting the couplings, difficulty in connecting the couplings with residual fuel pressure within the hose, and unintentional disconnection of the couplings during a journey.
Mtu Indonesia needed to minimise downtime caused by premature wear of fuel components. In the mine environment, particles were getting into the fuel through the unfiltered fuel tank vents. A super class mining truck uses between 4,000 and 5,000 litres of fuel a day, so an equivalent amount of “unfiltered” air was entering the trucks’ fuel tanks.
Banlaw has a dedicated Research and Development team that are committed to continuous improvement of our products and services in order to maintain our industry leading position. Our team can also work on specific projects to solve your particular refuelling or hydrocarbon management issues. For example, we have worked with Pacific National – a large freight loco operator in Australia – to develop our unique in-line refuelling coupling to overcome concerns they had regarding their fluid couplings used within In Line Refuelling systems, commonly used on longer haul journeys.
We have our own in-house machining and assembly expertise, ensuring that products are of the highest quality and enabling us to incorporate additional safety, efficiency and user-friendly features.
With more than 35 years’ experience, Banlaw has a thorough understanding of the challenges and barriers to fuel management, monitoring and reconciliation. Our team of experienced engineers can assist you to solve your refuelling and fuel handling problems, minimising risks and improving your bottom line.
